Jill Harju replied to Paul Murphy's discussion Will proposed 'fat tax' on junk food lower obesity rates? November 2010
"I don't really see a difference in whether they tax it or not. Its kind of like saying if the government legalized marijuana, sold it and taxed it in stores...that people would quit smokin it. Nope, not going to happen...junk food is an…"

Bumpy Road

It has been what seems like a long time since I have sat down to read the Obesity Thunder Bay email I receive. I go through my email daily and weed out the junk and by the end of a week or two I have a stack of stuff that I need to find the time to read. I could just hit the button and erase it, but there is so much valuable information in these posts that its almost like one of those chain letters, I feel guilty if I don't read them lol.As I stated I have been very busy. My baby boy just…See More

Our Children follow in our footsteps...

After reading todays post by Paul, I sank into deep thaught. Our children follow directly in our footsteps. My sons life will probably mirror my own, as my life mirrors that of my parents. I grew up in a rural area, as a matter of fact the exact same area both my parents grew up in, and in my raising we were taught of outdoor fun. We didn't have cable t.v. or satellite, there was no internet and the most high tech we had for games were coleco vision and Atari. In the summer we played with…See More

Healthy eating...local produce

Posted on August 15, 2010 at 7:26pm 0 Comments

While at our recent Exhibition in Thunder Bay we had not only rides and concession stands...we had a local farm demonstrate cow milking and hand out booklets that list all the farms in our area which sell fresh, organic produce. The book labeled "Your Guide to Local Food" was a real eye opener. We in this region have such an amazing opportunity that many big city dwellers can't fathom. We have fresh food that need not travel the average 3500kms most produce takes to get to our Grocery…
