Obesity Thunder Bay Website Fights Childhood Obesity
January 25th, 2010 | Fit Girl
Listen, I took some slack for The Girl Revolution: Fit Girl Series I ran last year. Too obsessive, one reader said in her email.
The thing is, childhood obesity has very serious health consequences for our children. Especially for our daughters who reach puberty between 100 and 110 pounds, whether that happens at 6 or 12. Outward signs of puberty are beginning in some girls as…

I am completely confused by this ,I simply had no idea. To think couches were damaging our health.
I now understand why the Activity Only Model makes sense . Perhaps we should ban all couches.
Obesity is a very serious and misunderstood issue , but what are the sources of this confusion? This morning on CTV Canada I witnessed another sarcastic interview complete with ,EYE ROLLING and the tone of stupidity. This continues to be the foundation of mainstream media when…

Lack of exercise is the problem
By: J. Justin Wilson
Newspaper: Providence Journal
AMERICANS have access to the same food in every state. You will find the same soda in Rhode Island as you will in Oregon. Fast-food franchises serve the same hamburgers in Providence and in rural Idaho. Rhode Islanders can buy the same packaged foods as residents of New Mexico. Everyone, in every state, gets to decide what food to buy.
Yet obesity rates vary widely across the…

One of the few surgeons in the United States who will perform bariatric surgery on teens has opened a center catering to that age group amid controversy over whether or not children should take such drastic measures to curb obesity.…

Obesity is emerging as a greater threat to public health than smoking, a U.S. study suggests.
The largest ongoing health survey interviewed more than 3.5 million American adults every year from 1993 to 2008.
As smoking rates tailed off in the U.S., the proportion of smokers among American adults fell from 22.7 per cent in…

I found the remark down below from the CBC site and it is articulate and well thought out. It is the type of belief that continues to be supported by the media. I am doing my best to explore the issue through a conversation, trying to open up channels of communication.
Childhood obesity allows for a little conversation, and thus inspires some thinking .The message of BLAME is strongly supported by many interested parties, because Blame deflects any focus on Food. I am seeking to open up a…

Lifestyle is a well thought out ,if not brilliant term. You see it is a slippery little word that is promoted to death. Add Healthy Active Living and you wrapped up Health Canada's response. The media has feasted on this term and most funding is warped into the model.
I contend that our current model that is funded continues to isolate the individual, and therefore the issue continues to get bamboozled ,confused, manipulated by heavily funded groups. Just try to promote a conversation…

Too fat to love a child?
This heartbreaking story in the Sunday Herald Sun is another example of government agencies not knowing what’s best, or acting in the best interests of people ... especially if they’re fat. There is no credible science to support a government official’s decision to base adoption eligibility on BMI.
Yet, a couple eager to give a loving home to a child, and told they’d make wonderful parents in every way, went through three years…

By John C. Drake, Globe Staff | January 28, 2007
The images are not subtle.
One billboard shows an overweight child's lower legs and feet on a scale next to the words, "Fat Chance," along with a list of the health risks of obesity. A second billboard shows the back of an overweight…
