Interesting discussion, but obviously a fairly uninformed discussion. I got my lapband in april 2010 and have lost 65 lbs. That is 60% of what I need to lose. It is very rare for the band to eat through the stomach or visa versa. The band consists of a tube that can contain up to 10 cc of saline. A Dr that is giving proper care to his patients, and either adds or subtracts saline to maintain an optimum weight loss of 1 lb /week. The port for this saline is under the surface of the abdomen and is not visible. It is filled by palpating it and inserting a long needle into the port. I think the study was seriously skewed, by making it seem that the patients have the procedure done with no follow up, and gain the weight back. You still have to follow a healthy diet and include a regular exercise routine. I think you should have done more research, and I don't understand why you would be asking Phil, as he has not had the procedure, or performed it, or even talked to anyone who has. You can do better than this report. 10 minutes of poorly informed information.
